The explosive growth in the CEE region made the choice of Warsaw in Poland as the conference venue for the CBRE European Industrial and Logistics team an easy one. Over 70 delegates and clients packed into the Warsaw Sheraton to hear some of the leading lights of the Industry air their views and network at this rapidly growing annual event.
The conference was opened by Guy Frampton, Chairman of the Industrial and Logistics Team in EMEA and John Palmer, Managing Director of Industrial and Logistics in Central and Eastern Europe, who provided an introduction to the Polish market. This was swiftly followed by the opening address from Jim Dieter, Executive Managing Director of Industrial and Logistics in Chicago, United States of America. Jim chose the theme of globalization and what it means to us individually and to CBRE as a Company. He encouraged us all to speak and act as global industrial specialists, utilizing what is the largest global platform available. He also encouraged us to make use of the international desks including Japan, China and Mexico.
Andre Kerremans and Frank Van Haesendonck from Immo Industry Group presented a summary of their current and future projects and highlighted the role which CBRE has played and continues to play in their European expansion. They also presented their new business leads registration system with individual password access.
Andrew Hatherley Executive Director, CBRE Greater China, opened for the CBRE speakers. Fresh from his hosting of the CBRE American brokers, he outlined some of the more immediate trends in the greater China Market and how we might help in referring new business opportunities. Nick Hendy from CBRE EMEA Investment Team gave us an update on the trends in the pan European Industrial and Logistics market, followed by Bert Hesselink from CBRE Prague, who gave us an update on best practice in agency and brokerage.
After the break, client presentations commenced with a consideration of the circumstances around whether to outsource or whether to keep logistics functions ‘in house’ by Alan Carswell, Director of European Real Estate for Black & Decker. This was followed by talks from Alan Fulford from Brittain Hadley Europa on Project Management, Marek Steinborn from Metalux, concerning trends in racking and automated systems, Martin Holub, Senior Vice President of Real Estate for Kuehne & Nagel on global trends in Logistics Real Estate, Lukasz Dziewanowski of Schenker Poland, focusing on the logistics tender process and closing the morning session, Nicholas Richardson of RRO Richardson Rios Olechowski on what to watch out for in transacting Real Estate in Poland.
The programme continued after lunch with a lively panel discussion chaired by John Palmer and featuring Martin Holub (Kuehne + Nagel), Michael de Jong-Douglas (Prologis), Frank Van haesendonck (IIG), Nicholas Richardson (RRO), Andrew Hatherley (CBRE), Alan Carswell (Black & Decker) and Lukasz Dziewanowski (Schenker).
The discussion panel was followed by the CBRE 2007 agent/broker of the year, this year won by Dublin’s finest export – Garrett McClean. Garrett and his team have built the Irish industrial business into a formidable, market leading force and his efforts have not gone unnoticed!
John Palmer closed the conference proceedings with the CBRE EMEA video and delegates then left for a tour of Warsaw (braving the driving rain).
Dinner at Ale Gloria restaurant was sponsored once again by Immo Industry Group and saw some active networking in very convivial circumstances. Dinner was followed by drinks at Republica Latina bar and the rest is history!
